About Us
We get it: choosing a car isn’t easy.
Our mission is to help you find the best car for your needs, whether that’s a practical SUV or MPV, sports car or luxury saloon.
Rather than bamboozling you with jargon and confusing terms, we’re here to tell you the things you need to know about any particular car – and not the things you don’t.
Who are we?
Our team of experienced motoring journalists have been covering the industry for the last 14 years.
Based here in the UK, we’re acutely aware of how complicated things are for car buyers these days: whether it’s questions about ULEZ, electric cars or company car tax.
We’re a passionate bunch, and you can read more about each of us by clicking the author link at the bottom of any review.
Why you can trust us
We’re not a car buying platform – we’re just here to help you find the best car for you.
We rate cars solely on merit, and there’s no financial incentive for us to recommend one model over another.
So if we’ve rated something highly, it’s because it’s a great car – simple as!
Do we use AI?
As clever as ChatGPT is, it can’t drive a car. That’s why all of our reviews are written by actual human beings.
How we review cars
While we can’t (literally) lab test the cars we’re given, we try to review each model as scientifically as possible.
Time behind the wheel
It wouldn’t be right for us to tell you what a car is like after a five minute trip round the block.
So, we’ll only commit to a review after some extensive time in the driver’s seat: usually measured in days rather than hours.
As part of this, we’ll put each car through every scenario it’s likely to encounter in the real world – be it long motorway journeys, or hours spent in stop-start traffic.
UK-based road test
We don’t think it’s right to give a final verdict on a car until we’ve driven it in the UK, on the pot-holed bits of tarmac we call roads.
Review vs ‘First Drive’
For important new models, we may also publish a ‘first drive’ account: usually from having driven the car abroad, and for a shorter period of time.
We do this to help give you a first impression of cars – often months before they go on sale.
These can’t hope to be as thorough as a UK-based review, but are simply to give you an idea of an upcoming model before it arrives on these shores.
